Nice backyard but it has a big problem: an ugly cliff-like slope. It's about 30 feet long and between 2 and 4 feet high.

Our first thought was to build a retaining wall but we realized there would be some issues. There is an already existing brick & mortar steps w/ a short wall. It might be hard to match it. There is also a big-ass boulder that we would have to take care of somehow.
We've also thought of ripping up the old brick & mortar steps & wall but that would be a huge pain.
Any ideas for making a retaining wall work with the existing stuff, or perhaps an alternative to a retaining wall to make the ugly slope look better? Thanks!
