We bought a foreclosed house that had been empty for several years. The front yard wasn't a high priority initially, but now we'd really like to have -some- sort of path over the grass. There seems to have been some stepping stones at some point, we haphazardly threw the ones we could dig up in a line but there's still a lot buried just under the surface. There's a wrench thrown in though - we have 2 big trees in the yard with their roots really close to the surface. Now, I'm a complete novice but after some googling it seems that if we just put something on top of them that we could kill the trees? Are there any options aside from removing the trees?
