I have a really shitty front yard and I have no idea what to do with it. Here are my details:
Location: SE Michigan, zone 6
Soil: Dirty sand with clay underneath. Seems pretty poor.
Exposure: House faces directly East. Gets full sun until midday.
Budget: I can do a couple thousand dollars this year and a couple more next year.
Experience: Lacking. I am competent with tools and have helped build decks, but have never done or planned this type of work.
Pictures: attached above.
Goals:
I have a small front yard that has been seriously neglected. My initial goals are to remove the hardscaping that is their and fix some of the damage/neglect. I would like to replace the concrete landing with a two level deck, slightly expanding the door landing and adding a larger sitting area a step down to the right (facing the house). The house is small and we like to be outside so creating more living space is important. I would like to add a cover to the deck and have seen some unique ones done with polycarbonite. Around that I would like to have some planters or ???. This is where my plan falls apart, I really have no idea what to do. I like some of the modern style gardens with the metal borders and stone (I included a picture) but I just have no vision for design or layout.
Basically this is a cry for help. How do I make my home look less like an abandoned crack house.
Thanks!
