The old owner of my home had a relatively low spot that they wanted to fill in front of the house near the roadway(maybe 75 sq feet). Instead of ordering soil and having it filled in professionally he got permission from a demolition across the street to take wheelbarrow after wheelbarrow of their discarded "soil" This was not soil but rather large rocks, most the size of a decent hardback novel or bigger, with some dirt mixed in. The soil has settled and the rocks are too prominent to be able mow the area. Of course all that grows there are weeds, so we can either try to keep them cut back some or kill everything with weed killer. I've tried pulling rocks by hand but there are just too many.
Is ordering topsoil and just spreading it over the whole area in 4-6 inches a way to fix this long term so we can mow it? Maybe topsoil and then sod? This is a huge eyesore for me and I'm just done with it. Ideally just calling in a landscaper would be great but I don't even have a clue what that might cost and I'd love to fix this for under $500. Suggestions?
