My lawn has become overrun by crabgrass, clover, and weeds. What should I start doing now to get it in better shape for next year?

Forgive me, I realize it's late in the season to start grass care but we just recently bought the house.

We're in zone 4b. What can I do now, mid-July, to start improving my lawn?
