I'm buying a new house with an old koi pond.

I recently purchased a home with a fairly large (I'd guess 10' in diameter) circular pond. The pump doesn't appear to work and there is maybe three feet of nasty, stagnant water in the thing right now. Are there any easy, cheap remedies for such ponds? Should I just drain it? How big of a deal is filling and maintaining a pond? etc.

Edit: I could remove it, but it's built up with nice stone and has a waterfall as well so I'd rather not just destroy the whole thing if I can help it. However, I don't really have much time or budget for a project like this because there's a lot of other stuff I need to be doing around the house.
