Anyone have experience with permeable pavers for a yard?

(x-post from /r/HomeImprovement)I've been looking into getting permeable pavers to replace concrete in my backyard. My understanding is they have spaces that allow water to go through , and the paver base is thicker with more course rock to allow water to drain. I'm worried about a few things and hoping for some input...

  1. I have an old house with a stone foundation. I will slope away from the foundation, but will that extra water soaking in the dirt end up against my foundation? Would it help to have a border of something(like concrete) that isn't permeable around the foundation?

  2. will this permeable paver "porch" hold up to extreme summer heat and winter freezes? I'm looking for something that will last.

  3. Maintenance - It looks like courser rock should be placed in the spaces between the pavers instead of sand or similar to allow water to travel through. I think you are supposed to keep the spaces clear of anything else. Seems like it would be tough to clean and we have a lot of leaves and stuff that falls onto that area.

I'm considering these types of pavers because a local grant might help pay for them. Thanks for any information!
