Starting over rear yard - sod or seed; DIY or hire

http://ift.tt/1Pv0dTn

I'm sure you hate these questions "how much" questions, but I'm at the end of construction on an addition so I'm trying to save at the end of the project.

My rear yard (50x40) was destroyed during work by bobcats running over everything so now I'm left with compacted soil. It needs light regrading in some spots but overall seems to be in good shape.

I have been reading up on DIY re-seeding and it doesn't look too difficult. Does it appear I'll need to do anything out of the ordinary (other than what's covered on a DIY site) to bring this yard back to life? Should I spend several thousand on a landscaping contractor to lay sod or should I try seeding it myself?

I sent a soil sample into a lab to see if any additives are needed prior to doing work.

Thank you!
