Northeast Black Swamp Maple

Hello Landscapers, I have a black swamp maple in my backyard that lost a trunk over the winter, this has left 4 trunks remaining and about 1/4 of the base trunk removed. The tree is far enough from my house that rather then take it down I'd like to try and save it. Any recommendations on what to do in this scenario? I've looked at some of the tree paints to see limbs but have heard counter arguments that letting the tree try to heal itself may be best. Thank you for the advice. To date there has been no foliage loss on the remaining trunks.
