New house, blank slate. Help me fill it! Album inside.

Hi /r landscaping! Here's my yard.

Just moved into a new home in March. It has a great yard that is currently a blank slate. This is good news because I won't have to remove a bunch of stuff I don't like, but it also makes it tough to create a vision for a noob such as me.

Located in NorCal on the coast. Looking from the deck, the garden shed is North, right fence East, Left Fence West. Most of the yard receives good sun from morning until around 4:00 pm when the sun goes behind some Redwood trees just West of us. The whole area is approx. 75' L (along E&W) and 55' W.

Soil is decent top soil then clay. The yard drains well for the most part but I think I'll need to run a french drain along the West fence away from the house but won't really know until it rains again probably after summer.

The goal is a nice split of garden area which will be for edibles, landscaped area and usable lawn. There will probably be a fire pit involved at some point, a must is a spot for my hammock which will hang from removable posts that slide into sleeves in poured concrete. The hammock is a big motivator to get the 'master plan' ironed out as I obviously only want to pour concrete once, but want to do so asap - it is hammock season after all!

Looking for landscaping that is fairly robust, not too high maintenance with splashes of color. Budget isn't really an issue as this will be a long term, ongoing process. I'm a noob when it comes to landscaping and gardening, but not afraid to get my hands dirty and really looking forward to the process and learning all I can.

Thanks!
