- new (to us) house that we bought last summer
- Atlantic Canada (no idea on zone? but it sure seems to rain a lot!)
- ignore all debris in the photo (bbq, lattice, drywall, etc.) except the oil tank, that is its permanent home
In this photo you are looking at the right side (from the street) of our house. The grey gravel at the bottom of the photo is where our fence and gate will be - it's just currently removed to get the excavator into the yard. We are having the entire back yard sodded but we seem to be spinning our tires on what to do with the path.
It's roughly 10' across, by 25' to the start of that incline near the bbq/back corner of the house. We want something (a) super easy to do ourselves, (b) super low maintenance and (c) super cheap.
We thought about just doing a gravel walkway/path that is the width of the gate door (4'), and then having sod laid on either side (against the house and against the fence). My main concern is that I'd like to edge the walkway with some sort of larger stone, brick, or even edging material, HOWEVER, the downspout on our house and our neighbours seem to produce the most run off and that area basically becomes a soggy mess when it's raining heavily. If you zoom in on the photo, you can see water in the white rock right now (it's pouring outside).
Will edging the path essentially mean we're "boxing in" the drainage and keep it on either side of the path (i.e. in our new sods, and closer to our foundation)?
Any other ideas on what to do here? Again, super cheap, super easy, super low maintenance!
