I'm looking for ideas on what lawn alternative we can plant. Before it was random shrubs and rose bushes. Near the retaining wall, we planted day-lilies which are coming out nicely. In the open area we planted creeping thyme (pink chintz) but it's being overtaken by weeds. I looked into surrounding the thyme with mulch until it grows out, but read that it wasn't recommended because it might cause too much moisture to linger around the thyme. We'd like to keep the thyme, but it's been a pain in the ass weeding around it. So we're looking for suggestions out there, and we're not totally against installing sod if that's the best option, but we are looking for something with less maintenance and right now I think I'd rather mow a lawn every week than weed for the next couple of years until it grows out.
