Glove recommendations for someone who hates gloves? My hands cannot take any more abuse!

I've always hated gloves, they make doing everything more clumsy and I almost never wear them but am starting to mess my hands up when doing larger amounts of weeding/shovelling/etc, am hoping someone who's been in such situation may be able to recommend specific gloves, or types of gloves or features or whatever, that I could consider- I gotta do something, I did so much yesterday that both of my hands are half-useless today and probably will be for days, can't keep doing that!
